SD Voices for Peace will host the 2nd Cohort of the Courage Youth Advocates program

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) — South Dakota Voices for Peace is hosting its second Cohort of Courage Youth Advocates program in August.

CoC Youth Advocates gives young people from Black, Indigenous, and communities of color in SD high schools and universities a chance to come together and understand and implement strategies for social change. The program is scheduled to take place August 1-11, with applications for the program due July 25.

On August 5, there will be dedicated time from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for participants to learn how the media can impact social justice and social change. The meeting will be held in the social hall of the Mt. Zion Synagogue at the corner of 14th and Duluth.

On August 11, at the public forum, attendees will present topics they are passionate about and offer solutions to local issues such as healthy food in schools, public transportation in Sioux Falls and discrimination in public schools. The public forum will be held at the Sioux Falls Downtown Library.

Lasting impact of the CoC

Several members of the cohort have now come together to host an IN THE KNOW podcast, according to the SDVFP website. The program has been successful, as members of the 2021 cohort remain committed to the social change work they developed during the program.
