Espoo, Finland – Nokia announced today plans to integrate Microsoft Azure Arc abilities in the Nokia MX Industrial Advantage (MXIE) Platform, unlocking the potential of mission-critical applications for Industry 4.0 use cases. Thanks to the integrationNokia MXIE and private wireless solution customers have seamless access to the full Azure ecosystem offer on MXIE.

Intended to support industries such as automotive, manufacturing, energy, logistics and government, this powerful combination will enable use cases by allowing customers to run applications in the traditional cloud, as well as directly in their premises. Collaboration in these areas will provide many benefits, such as increasing worker safety through AI and automation, while reducing the amount of tie-ins needed with local data processing.

Microsoft Azure Arc provides an easy way to deploy and manage on-premises Azure applications with multicloud resources, such as virtual or physical servers and Kubernetes clusters. It simplifies governance and management by providing a consistent multi-cloud and on-premises management platform.

The Nokia MXIE is a future-ready, high-capacity and highly resilient on-premises OT edge solution that accelerates the digital transformation of operational technology (OT) and is powered by 4.9/LTE and 5G connectivity provided by the Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC).

Microsoft Azure Arc running on Nokia MXIE gives enterprises additional access to Azure functionality while benefiting from real-time data from wirelessly connected private assets and highly resilient on-premises OT-centric edge processing.

Stephan Litjens, Vice President, Nokia Enterprise Solutions, said: “We have built a leadership position with our private wireless networking solution and our MX Industrial Edge platform largely by working with our valued partners. Our extensive collaboration with Microsoft will enable and improve the performance of critical Industry 4.0 applications, allowing our customers to operate Microsoft Azure Arc in the cloud and at the edge of the customer site.

Keith Sutton, CTO, Telco Service Line at Microsoft said: “Nokia is a recognized leader in fully integrated industrial and home wireless solutions to deliver automated management features and tools that accelerate OT digitization. With Microsoft Azure Arc, a large application ecosystem, and our long-standing collaboration with Nokia, we can deliver AI-driven insights and identify solutions to workflow issues for critical Industry 4.0 applications performed on the periphery.

Nokia has deployed mission-critical networks for more than 2,200 leading enterprise customers in transportation, energy, enterprise, manufacturing, web and public sectors worldwide. It has also extended its expertise to more than 450 large private wireless customers worldwide across a range of industries, and has been cited by many industry analysts as the world’s leading provider of private wireless networks.
