mu Space and SpaceBelt have signed a memorandum of understanding and are jointly developing the proof of concept and constellation system for data security as a service of SpaceBelt.
Satellite manufacturer and service provider mu Space Corp and the space service with secure cloud data storage provider, SpaceBelt have agreed to a memorandum of understanding completed on August 16, 2022.
Both parties strongly believe they can bring their own expertise to the project to make it successful and benefit from the collaboration, with plans to have a commercial agreement around the second half of 2023. mu Space, founded in 2017, is a fast-growing and leading aerospace manufacturer in Southeast Asia, with the goal of improving the lives of people in their region by producing high-power cubes or small satellites with an efficient and high-quality power system .
SpaceBelt Pte. ltd. was established in 2020 in Singapore, with headquarters in the United States as Cloud Constellation Corporation. SpaceBelt’s vision is to provide the customer with complete autonomy of data in space with highly secure protection whether data is in motion or at rest. SpaceBelt Data Security As A Service (DSaaS) is a unique space-based architecture that builds on the patent filed by SpaceBelt and enables global connection without touching any terrestrial network, regardless of where the customer is.
The memorandum of understanding that has been signed will see mu Space take over mission development, constellation concept development and demonstration mission services. In addition to this, mu Space will also provide services, small satellites, additional services on the launch report and case service supervision.
mu Space unveiled its production satellite, the mu-B200, late last year at its facilities. SpaceBelt will be the first customer to use mu Space’s bus system, which promises to be powerful and unique in its own way compared to others on the market. Committed to using state-of-the-art technology, mu Space is currently able to produce 10 satellites per year in its mu Space Factory 1 with an expansion plan that will see the number increase to 100 satellites per year. The research and development put into the production of the satellite is aimed at improving its communication characteristics. With subsequent versions of the satellite leading to high power and communication capabilities. The alignment of both parties on the concept of space IDC and DSaaS of SpaceBelt was an integral part of the agreement.
Mu Space CEO and CTO James Yenbemroong says:
“We are delighted to work with SpaceBelt and appreciate their commitment and confidence in our technology. We believe that our high-powered satellites and unique bus system will be prominent in the global market in the near future. I also want to thank the mu Space team for working tirelessly to achieve the success we have had with our satellite production.
The MOU allows SpaceBelt to demonstrate the concept of Data Security as a Service (DSaaS), the development of SpaceBelt’s first-generation DSaaS constellation system, and the development of operations to demonstrate the missions.
SpaceBelt CEO Kok Rie Ooi says:
“The collaboration is a win-win for SpaceBelt and mu Space in that both parties combine technical know-how for design, construction and operating capabilities to bring an innovative new secure data communication system. and cloud storage of data in space. I look forward to the success of the partnership and the launch of SpaceBelt’s satellites into space and the deployment of our DSaaS in the market.
Through this MoU, both parties will get a partnership in a satellite mission, with mu Space also getting funds for demonstration missions and synergy in working on the space edge computing concept. mu Space looks forward to a successful partnership with SpaceBelt, as well as the provision of small satellites for related missions. Together, both parties hope to have a positive impact on the space economy and on the space industry as a whole.
