The report and map provide essential data on social equity programs, as well as other policies impacting equity in the medical and adult markets. The Equity Map is a dynamic digital tool for advocates, legislators and stakeholders to gather and track policies that will provide understanding and analysis of the many barriers to entry for minority operators at the state and local level. municipalities. As new states and policies come online, the report and map will be continually updated to reflect the current state of social equity in the country.

“We created the Fairness Report and Map to give advocates and the industry the data and tools needed to overcome barriers to entry and create true fairness in the cannabis industry,” said declared Amber Littlejohn, CEO of the MCBA. “With the data collected, we can now take a closer look at what is being done and where there is room for improvement to advance social equity efforts.”

Among these highlights, MCBA identified seven first conclusions that can be used to re-examine state social equity programs that include the use of non-racial criteria in social equity qualifications, timely funding, license caps, and ownership prohibitions for people with have already been convicted of cannabis.

“For years, policymakers have haphazardly thrown social equity provisions against the wall to see what sticks, albeit with good intentions,” said David Abernathy, Principal-Arcview Consulting and MCBA Board Member. “With this seminal work, we can finally begin to report on what has worked and what hasn’t and use that knowledge to create better designed and more effective social equity provisions to effect change. which are essential as we move forward.”
